Fitzgerald Environmental Associates (FEA) is a water resources consulting firm located in Colchester, Vermont. FEA offers consulting services in the applied water and geospatial sciences to a diverse clientele of government, non-profit, and private entities, with a specialty focus in watershed and river corridor assessment, planning, and engineering at the municipal and regional level. FEA’s core services include river and floodplain planning and restoration design, stormwater master planning and design, streamflow monitoring and analysis, wetlands delineation and permitting, and geospatial mapping and modeling.

WATER RESOURCES ENGINEER

FEA seeks a full-time Water Resources Engineer to join our team and support our clients’ projects within our core service areas of rivers, stormwater, lakes, and wetlands. The ideal candidate will share our passion for hydrology and water quality work to protect and enhance Vermont’s water resources and should be motivated and committed to advancing their engineering career under the supervision and direction of a licensed Professional Engineer. The successful candidate will collaborate with each FEA team member across our service areas to support and advance our clients’ and partners’ important environmental work on a variety of projects. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field work and data collection in support of water quality project assessment, planning, design, and permitting. Field work may involve long days with travel and occasional overnights, work in inclement weather, and extensive hiking over varied terrain and/or wading in flowing streams.
  • Assist with topographic data collection with both GPS and Total Station survey equipment.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, mapping, design, and analysis. 
  • Preparation of maps and analysis of data using GIS software.
  • Drafting and design assistance, using Civil 3D CAD software, in support of stormwater and river design projects under the direction of a Professional Engineer and the larger FEA design team. 
  • Preparation of planning documents, technical reports, and memoranda.
  • Preparation of local, state and federal permit applications and supporting materials.


Preferred Minimum Qualifications and Skills

  • B.S. degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or ability and desire to obtain.
  • Minimum one to two years of professional consulting experience in applied hydrology and water resources engineering preferred.
  • Minimum one to two field seasons of experience supporting environmental projects. Experience with river and floodplain assessments is a plus.
  • Experience collecting topographic data with both GPS and Total Station survey equipment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil3D software including topographic data import and analysis, plan development, grading, and 3D analysis.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro (GIS Software) including map preparation and data analysis.
  • Experience developing and applying hydrologic/hydraulic models (HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, etc.) to project sites for planning, design, and permitting. Experience with 2D hydraulic modeling a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 


Compensation and Benefits

Estimated salary range $65,000 - $75,000 depending on the candidate’s qualifications, skills, and years of experience. Candidates with substantially more than two years of professional consulting experience could be eligible for a higher pay range.
